Renowned and much loved US psych-rockers The Flaming Lips have been announced for MONA FOMA 2016, the popular annual festival held as part of Hobart’s Museum of Old and New Art’s (MONA) Festival of Music and Art (FOMA). The Flaming Lips were last in Australia for Falls Festival and Southbound over the summer of 2012/13 and are a popular addition to this event, which is growing in popularity. Fans of the Flaming Lips will already be preparing for their weird, wonderful and uber colourful live show, which is nothing if not unpredictable! The Flaming Lips shows can feature anything from inflatable space-bubbles to backup dancers wear all in one animal suits.
They have also been known to walk on stage in a huge neon vagina! The open air Mona venue will be primed as The Flaming Lips take to MONA’s outdoor stage during Mofo. Whilst in this region this coming summer, The Flaming Lips will also play at New Zealand’s new McLaren Valley Festival in early January.
The band’s latest studio album is 2014’s ‘With a Little Help from My Fwends’ – it is a track-for-track tribute to The Beatles’ album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Prior to that release, their latest all-original album was The Terror, released in 2013.
